Loch Gleann A'Bhearraidh drawdown enhancement

In a statutory inspection of Loch Gleann A'Bhearraidh Reservoir, Oban, completed in November 2012, recommendations in the interest of safety were made by the inspection engineer to prepare a new flood study to determine the adequacy of available freeboard and to improve the drawdown capacity of the reservoir which was insufficient. The installation of a permanent additional scour capacity was preferred over the mobilisation of pumps. A scour tee-off from the supply pipe would reflect the historic situation and was considered to be the best option. It also offered increased drawdown potential which could be mobilised with immediate effect to mitigate the effects of wave overtopping in flood events.
