Purpose

Previous research has explored the role of technology in sustainable performance. Less attention has been paid to employees' acceptance of emerging technologies (ETA). The potential of technology is difficult to realize unless employees are willing to embrace it. This study investigates the relations between employees' technology readiness (ETR) and ETA, and corporate sustainable performance (CSP) in the logistics industry.

Design/methodology/approach

Drawing on an integrated framework of technology acceptance model (TAM) and social cognitive theory (SCT), this study develops a model linking individual cognition, green behavior and CSP. It examines whether ETR predicts ETA, whether ETA predicts CSP directly and indirectly through green self-efficacy (GSE) and employee green behavior (EGB), and whether person-organization fit (POF) moderates the effects of ETA on GSE and CSP. Three-wave time-lagged survey data from 552 logistics employees were analyzed using covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM).

Findings

The results show that ETR increases ETA. ETA improves CSP both directly and indirectly through GSE and EGB. In the full integrated structural model, the direct effect of GSE on CSP is not supported. However, supplementary analyses show that this path is unstable across subgroups and subsamples. This suggests that employees' green confidence needs to be translated into actual green behavior before it can reliably shape organizational outcomes. POF moderates the translation of ETA into both GSE and CSP.

Originality/value

This study reveals that logistics CSP depends not only on firm-level digital capabilities but also on employees' ETA and their subsequent engagement in EGB. It also provides practical guidance for logistics managers on enhancing ETR, strengthening GSE, designing behavior-based interventions, and improving the sustainable value of emerging technologies through stronger POF.
