This book does exactly what it says on the cover; it provides the reader with a full and complete history and archaeology of the Trent Valley sand and gravel industry. It is well set out, scholarly, eminently readable and is not a dry recital of facts and figures. The author also uses, to great effect, stories and memories of those people who were directly involved during its major expansion in the twentieth century.
