Welcome to the October issue of our journal. This is the fifth issue this year and as such we are entering new territory in terms of the volume of material published.
Kathleen Hollow our journals coordinator at Thomas Telford decided to retire at the end of July after many years of diligent work supporting the committee. Her efforts which were always efficient and cheerful were sincerely appreciated. We wish her a long and happy retirement. Kathleen's replacement is Sohini Banerjee to whom we offer a warm welcome.
At the end of this year we will be saying farewell and thanks to three long standing members of the committee; Mike Devriendt; Charles Hird and Tony O'Brian. We are keen to replace all of the retiring team members and to add a number of additional members, as we wish to increase the size of the committee. A larger committee is warranted due to the success of the journal, which now publishes 50% more papers than at any time in its history. The committee is made up of representatives from academia, consultancy and contractors covering the full spectrum of geotechnics. Past committee members have found the experience rewarding as well as being a useful insight into the ways that ICE conducts its business. If you or a colleague believe that you could make a contribution to the running of the journal please contact Sohini Banerjee.
Finally it just leaves me to commend this issue to you. Happy reading.
