A series of triaxial compression tests was carried out on air-dried samples of Bath Stone, a soft, high porosity, oolitic limestone. Tests were carried out to investigate the brittle, transitional and ductile ranges of behaviour. Elastic and plastic components of strains at and beyond yield were isolated. The plastic strain increment vectors at yield were found to satisfy the normality condition of associated plastic flow. Both frictional and volume change mechanisms of yield were found to occur. Dilation associated with brittle fracture and cataclastic flow occurred at confining pressures of up to 5 MPa. At higher confining pressures, net contractant volumetric strains were measured and a trend towards isotropic yielding was observed. The magnitudes of the stresses at yield were found to be stress path independent.

Une série d'essais de compression triaxiale a été effectée sur des échantillons séchés à l'air de la Pierre de Bath, une Pierre calcaire oolithique tendre de porosité élevée. Le but était d'etudier son comportement fragile, transitoire et ductile. Après avoir isolé les composantes élastique et plastique des déformations à la limite de la plasticité et au-delà on a découvert que les vecteurs de l'accroissement des déformations plastiques satisfaisaient à la condition de normalité de l'écoulement plastique associé. On trouvé que des mécanismes de changement de frottement et de volume jouaient un rôle en ce qui concerne la limite de plasticité. La dilation associée à la fracture fragile et a l'écoulement cataclastique a eu lieu à des pressions d'étreinte pouvent atteindre 5 MPa. On a mesuré les déformations volumiques totales de contraction et observé une tendance vers une limite de plasticité isotrope. I1 a été decouvert que les valeurs des contraintes à la limite de plasticité étaient indépendantes du chemin de contrainte.
