Purpose

The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), with its growing export potential, represents a significant economic bloc for Iran. This study aims to identify and prioritize export opportunities for Iran within the EAEU market using the decision support model (DSM).

Design/methodology/approach

The DSM evaluates potential export markets by considering various factors, including country risk, purchasing power, market size and future prospects, market entry barriers, monopoly conditions and competitive strength.

Findings

The analysis of 25,250 product-market combinations reveals that a total of 236 combinations are identified as potential export opportunities for Iran. The most promising opportunities, in order of priority, include organic chemicals, machinery and mechanical appliances, inorganic chemicals, cotton and woven cotton fabrics, electrical machinery and equipment, dyes and pigments, raw hides and leather, cast iron, iron and steel, edible vegetables and plants and synthetic fibers.

Originality/value

These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and Iranian businesses seeking to expand their export presence within the EAEU market.
