The performance of recycled rubber-filled high-strength concrete (RHSC) with different rubber contents (0%, 1%, 2% and 3%) and different rubber sizes such as 15-sieve size (1 mm), 40-sieve size (0·42 mm) and 60-sieve size (0·25 mm) was tested in this study, including the compressive strength, splitting strength, flexural strength, elastic modulus, stress–strain relationship and permeability of chloride ion. The test results show that the addition of rubber powder can reduce the strength of high-strength concrete, improve the capacity of energy absorbability, modify the brittleness and enhance the ductility of the high-strength concrete. An ultrasonic pulse non-destructive technique was used to investigate the RHSC. The relationships between the compressive strength and the pulse velocity of RHSC were presented, which can be used to foretell the strength of RHSC.
