Ductility and plastic design of RC sway frames

Ductility in plastically designed RC sway frames is examined. Simple member slenderness rules are derived for frames subjected to combined or vertical load. The method is intended as a first assessment of the ductility problem, before a more rigorous elastic–plastic analysis is undertaken. The recommendations are illustrated by way of a numerical example.
