About Journal of Rehabilitation Methods and Technologies
The Journal of Rehabilitation Methods and Technologies (JRMT) is being established as a novel new publication outlet in response to an unmet need within the rehabilitation community and to help shape the future of rehabilitation technologies.Published in partnership with the MotusAcademy.
This journal provides a dedicated channel for the complete research lifecycle – from inception to clinical adoption – ensuring that innovative research and ideas receive the exposure needed to drive meaningful advancements in patient care. This integrative approach will encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration and ensure that our readership gains profound insights into the evolution of rehabilitation technologies and their transformative implications for society.
Articles addressing all stages and aspects of technological innovation in physical medicine and rehabilitation are considered, with particular attention to neurorehabilitation, orthopaedic rehabilitation, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
Coverage includes, but is not limited to:
- Rehabilitation 4.0 and the integration of digital healthcare and advanced rehabilitation technologies
- Artificial intelligence (AI)
- Rehabilitation robotics and application
- Prosthetics & orthotics
- Walking aids & wheelchairs
- Assistive devices
- Central nervous stimulation
- Peripheral nervous stimulation
- Virtual & augmented reality
- Brain-machine interface technologies
- Tele-rehabilitation
- Social robotics
- Cognitive & speech rehabilitation technologies
- Event and outreach technologies
- Educational and didactic methods
Submissions are welcome from experienced researchers, postdoctoral fellows, postgraduate students, and undergraduate candidates (under appropriate supervision). We encourage studies rooted in engineering and computer science as they pertain to rehabilitation technologies, particularly those that introduce novel, creative, and innovative approaches to contemporary challenges in health rehabilitation. Emphasis is placed on work that advances theoretical knowledge and demonstrates tangible real-world impact, contributing significantly to both scientific and research progress and clinical practice.
Article types
- Research Paper - Up to 8,000 words in length, research papers should follow standard IMRaD or equivalent scholarly structure and must state methodological approach and limitations. You will also be asked to select a category for your Research Paper – please choose the most appropriate from the options given in the submission process.
- Technical Paper - Up to 6,000 words in length, technical papers give a unique opportunity to disseminate early-stage and novel-design research, including early-stage designs, benchmarking protocols, datasets/simulators, education methods/tools, and reports on competitions, exhibitions, sports and evaluation events involving rehabilitation technologies.
- Practitioner Paper - Up to 6,000 words in length, practitioner papers can be submitted by anyone using research technologies in a clinical or practice setting and should provide an evidence-based perspective on their use. These include practice-led, evidence-informed analyses from clinical, rehabilitation engineering, and service-delivery settings. Must include context, intervention description, outcome metrics and implementation reflections.
- Case Study – Up to 6,000 words in length, a case study should provide analysis of the application of a rehabilitation technology, with reference to the theory and evidence base. Case studies can also be single-site or multi-site applications, proofs-of-concept or translational deployments. Please include patient/user consent and governance where applicable and explicitly link to theory/evidence.
JRMT gratefully acknowledges the support of MotusAcademy – Beyond Education, whose ongoing educational initiatives and strategic guidance enrich the journal’s mission.
