At first glance, one might be forgiven for considering an airport pavement rehabilitation project, at what might be viewed a second-tier facility, to be somewhat uninspiring. However, as Senior Director for RPS with over 30 years of experience in the aviation sector, this is considered to be without doubt the most challenging project ever undertaken by the author. All three project manager roles on the scheme were equally challenging and it is only through the three parties working in such a close collaborative manner that the project can be held up as the success that it has proven to be. The challenges have been varied, with the earliest and perhaps most fundamental being that of funding. This was followed by balancing the funding with the environmental impact and social requirements of the island. There has also been no shortage of technical challenges, not least due to the very wide-ranging project scope.
