A concept of very general human interest is that of pattern which may not be amenable to the communication engineer's measure of “information”. The ideas of structure and complexity can be quantified in relation to strictly geometrical patterns, and appear to have some qualitative applications to visual art and to music. But some degree of irregularity also contributes to aesthetic experience, and this is not easily quantified.
