A considerable communications gap now exists between the new generation of 'datacrats' and the managements which employ them. In the opinion of the author, this gap is growing, and unless closed will prove to be a factor in limiting the effective employment of computers in British industry and commerce. The implications of such limitations need no emphasis for an economy struggling to improve its productivity by a marginal 2– 3%.
