New laws boost Polish renewable energy

Polish renewable energy producers can now trade on the Polish power exchange,following entry into force on 1 October 2005 of new energy and environment laws. The exchange is now operational, initially with an expected turnover of €180 million per year. The new laws require companies to prove that they purchase renewable energy. Those that don’t must pay a “substitute fee”of €60 per megawatt hour. Severe fines are available for companies failing to do either.
