World Business Summit on Climate Change-Delivering recommendations to a new climate treaty

Copenhagen, Denmark, 24-26 May 2009

Climate change, typically viewed as a threat, also presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lead the next industrial revolution as the world shifts to a low carbon economy. At the World Business Summit on Climate Change, the Copenhagen Climate Council and the world’s foremost low carbon pioneers will take the lead in kick-starting this industrial revolution. The Summit’s ambition is to demonstrate clearly that climate change is not just a risk and a challenge to humanity, but also a significant opportunity to create innovative solutions and new ventures that may result in better quality of life for millions of people across the world.

The Summit will bring together business leaders with the world’s top scientists, economists, civil society, media leaders, politicians and other thought leaders to show how business can help solve the climate crisis through innovative business models, new partnerships and the development of low carbon technologie. The Summit will send a strong message to the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) on how to remove barriers and create incentives for implementation of new solutions in a post-Kyoto framework.

International Conference on Human Ecology

Manchester, UK, 30 June-3 July 2009

This Conference, under the theme “Human Ecology for an urbanising world” will examine the status of, and current challenges facing, human ecology around the world. It aims to bring together scholars and practitioners associated with the study and practice of human ecology to demonstrate the relevance of the discipline, and its philosophy and applications, for the contemporary environment and for society. The continued growth of cities and the increasing rates of consumption of hundreds of millions of urban people are continuing to have impacts far beyond urban areas themselves. The transformation of the earth’s surface, atmosphere and waters is both modifying ecosystems and changing societies. The resolution of the many problems that these transformations create requires the holistic, integrative approach to the earth as the home of humankind that human ecology fosters and promotes. This conference aims to bring together the diverse perspectives embraced by the wide range of approaches to these problems and to produce new ideas and practical suggestions for improving the efforts being made to improve people’s lives and to better care for the planet.
