Newport introduces AutoAlign™ MODAL Modular Alignment System

Newport Corporation has announced the introduction of the AutoAlign™MODAL – a modular system for performing alignment and metrology of fiber optic components, including planar waveguides, AWGs, fiber collimators and various other devices (Plate 3). In its simplest form, the AutoAlign MODAL is an economical entry-level version of Newport's automated assembly systems ideal for early process development, prototyping and pilot production. In more comprehensive versions, AutoAlign MODAL is a semi-automated fiber-optic component packaging tool.

The AutoAlign MODAL uses the same mechanical and software interfaces as Newport's fully automated assembly systems. Thus, it offers a direct upward migration path as users transition from the lab to the production floor, and preserves investment in process development and machine user interface as assembly requirements evolve.
