The basic objective of this research was to isolate controllable factors within an organisation that can contribute to the maintenance of value yielded by a computer based organisational information system. In essence this research concerned itself with aspects of systems maintenance as a whole rather than the more limited process of program maintenance that usually strives to sustain programs in a usable state. In common with most other systems, information systems deteriorate with the passage of time and hence it is necessary to input energy to a system during its life to maintain effective operation and therefore the value yielded.
