Digital hearing aids

Digital hearing aids on the NHS will be available in around 20 sites in the UK from Spring this year. It is estimated that 20,000-30,000 people will benefit from this scheme which will eventually lead to significant improvements in hearing aid services for all NHS patients. The NHS Executive has worked closely with the Royal National Institute for Deaf People and the Medical Research Council of Hearing Research in the development of these services. The digital hearing aid allows better levels of communication using the best available technology. The launch of the scheme will include listening to patients'experiences of how digital hearing aids can help them better and is said to bring the NHS hearing aid service into the twenty-first century.
