In the period between Christmas and New Year I always like to try and Spring Clean and clear out my office of old journals, papers and books and rearrange things ready for the New Year.

Looking at papers from over 20 years ago there are various comments about the problems of obesity, too little fibre in the diet, people taking too little exercise and also taking too much salt.

Yet despite all of the education, promotion and research into the subjects of nutrition and health the problems have just been getting worse.

Recently, there does seem to be a trend to say that people are beginning to choose more wisely and to eat less fat.

No doubt with the New Year there will be many people making resolutions to follow a more healthy lifestyle. That will include eating a more healthy diet after the overindulgences of Christmas. But with the plethora of information around in books and magazines on diet and health it is hoped that these resolutions will be sustained well into the New Year and not given up after a few days.

Certainly, as I know from the training events that I run, many people are genuinely interested in nutrition and wanting to train in the subject and to then go on and train others.

So perhaps when I do a Spring Clean in the future I will find that the topics in journals will have changed, as people will have adjusted their diet and lifestyle to a more healthy one.
