The Government's Food Additives and Contaminants Committee has recommended a ban on colourants added to foods for babies and young children and has suggested that stricter controls are needed over additives in all foods. The recommendations are in the Interim Report on the Review of the Colouring Matter in Food Regulations (1973) which also proposes which colours are to be permitted for food use in future and revised purity specifications to which they should conform.
