At the recent WHO/UNICEF meeting, poor feeding practices of this vulnerable age group were described as one of the world's major problems and a serious obstacle to social and economic development. This largely man made problem continues to take a heavy toll in deaths and long term mental and physical disability. The meeting issued recommendations for urgent action.
