MILK TRENDSThe Liquid Milk Report 1991 has revealed some interesting data about milk consumption. For example, although 98% of households buy milk, the proportion of those buying it from the milkman has declined from 82% in 1985 to 68% in 1990. More housewives are buying from the shops and the milkman and more are buying from shops only. Over 50% of working housewives now buy milk from a supermarket compared with 15% ten years ago. The two main reasons given for this is thatthe household sector from 7% in 1985 to 26% in 1990. In Canada, France and the Netherlands over 50% of liquid milk consumption is of semi‐skimmed milk, while in the USA, Denmark and Italy semi‐skimmed has reached over 40%. Children are above average consumers of semi‐skimmed milk which now accounts for 49% of their consumption.
