Public Health Minister Yvette Cooper recently announced that pilot schemes offering health checks for people retiring from work would be available. The pilot schemes will take place in North Nottinghamshire, Hull and East Riding,and Sandwell in the West Midlands. Further pilot schemes will be announced later this year in other regions of the UK. Around £800,000 is being made available to fund the pilot schemes, which will include checks and advice on blood pressure, fuel and heating, fitness level, diet, immunisation and screening programmes.
