Breakfast research

A nationwide online survey, during 25-31 January 2004, will look at the effects of eating a healthy balanced breakfast on cognitive function –particularly memory and attention levels.

The survey helped to raise awareness within schools of the importance of eating a healthy, balanced breakfast and provide hooks for discussion and exploration of the Balance of Good Health.

To take part, pupils logged on to the Web site: www.cdr.org.uk/breakfast

They undertook five short, simple tasks: each task took between 1 and 2 min,so the activity took approximately 10 min in total. The children then answered multiple choice questions about the breakfast they have had that day.

The survey was hosted by the Home Grown Cereals Authority.
