New features for the Elcometer 345 coating thickness gauge

Elcometer Instruments Ltd, the Manchester-based specialist in instrumentation for the testing and quality control of coating processes, has added a large number of new features to its very popular family of coating thickness gauge,the Elcometer 345 (Plate 7).
The pocket-sized, battery powered Elcometer 345 already has the capability of measuring on ferrous metals (F) and non-ferrous metals (N) and has a dual FNF option with the choice of integral or separate probes and the choice of scale range. The gauges are available in either four-key or nine-key configuration depending on the additional features required.

The new features have been incorporated in three software versions, basic,standard and top. In addition to the familiar capabilities of metric/imperial units switching, two point and special calibration adjustment and automatic switch off, all the new gauge configurations also have the following new features:
statistical summary with user defined sequence (patent applied for);
increased range on F1 and N1 scales to 1,500 x (60 mil);
calibration adjustment lockout that prevents accidental change to the calibration values stored in the gauge;
"Big Foot" on integral probe options for increased probe stability;
improved measurement repeatability;
increased reading rate to > 40 readings per minute;
louder bleep output, approximately double the original specification;
factory set default calibration values;
increased battery life and a new rechargeable battery compatibility;
"Raincoat" option for over-spray protection.
The basic versions, with the four-key configuration, also have an infrared data output capability so that statistical values can be transmitted remotely to an infrared miniprinter.
The standard versions, also with the four-key configuration, have a backlight fitted for use in low ambient light conditions. This feature is also User switchable to reduce battery consumption. The standard versions are equipped with a red LED reading indicator for high noise environments and the data output is via a "lemo" socket using an interface cable for either printer or computer communication.
The nine-key, top versions have reading memory capacity for 16,000 values that can be reviewed on the display or up-loaded to a computer for analysis. The Elcometer Data Collection Software (EDCS) is a WindowsTM-based software program to facilitate the transmission and analysis of data.
