Britain was no longer great and the influence of the Salisburys' had gone for ever. Simple ways of keeping the people happy were now the vogue and, with Keynesian relish, money was poured into the economy and a commercial indian summer promised a blaze of glory. From time to time, the printing presses got rather hot and they were rested — the Stop‐Go economy had, well and truly, come into being.
