As shown in the recent economic survey of the UK paint industry by Jordan Dataquest (and commented upon in our February issue), the decorative sector of the paint industry is noticeably less profitable than the industrial and marine sectors. Nevertheless, a number of MP's — probably as ill‐informed about the paint industry as they sometimes appear to be on certain political issues — saw fit some eighteen months ago to bring charges that excessive profits were being made by decorative paint manufacturers! This must have had some effect, for the Government's Price Commission last month published a 43‐page report on “Decorative Paint”.
