ICL's oxazolidine enables low VOC systems
Keywords Coatings,ICL, Oxazolidine
Oxazolidine manufacturer,Industrial Copolymers Limited (ICL) has developed a high performance reactive diluent to enable formulators of polyurethane coatings, sealants and elastomers to achieve low VOC systems.
Owing to its particularly low viscosity profile, Incozol LV reportedly can be used in the production of high build, high solids systems without reducing the properties of the existing formulation. The hardener hydrolyses on exposure to moisture, yielding reactive amine and hydroxyl functional groups. According to ICL, unlike traditional moisture-curing polyurethanes, it rapidly cures without carbon dioxide gassing and thus prevents bubbling, pin-holing and down-glossing.
The main application of the product is in the formulation of two component coatings where Incozol LV is added to the polyol component, such as automotive refinish paints. Other applications include car underbody sealants, waterproof coatings and anti-graffiti lacquers, although it is possible to use the product in one component moisture-cure systems.
As Incozol LV is stated to be solvent free, it can help formulators to achieve significant reductions in solvent content. Furthermore, it has excellent flow and application properties,a high degree of moisture tolerance and will not reduce the film hardness or chemical resistance of formulations.
Other key performance benefits claimed of Incozol LV include its tolerance to repeated opening of containers, particularly in environments of high atmospheric humidity. In addition, it exhibits an extended shelf life of at least one year in unopened containers.
