Components & Products Ltd has introduced a new range of adhesives, sealants and coatings, the first of which is Graphi-Bond 669; this is a single part, high temperature, graphite-based adhesive system manufactured by Aremco Products, Inc.
Graphi-Bond 669 is a single part, graphite and ceramic filled, high temperature adhesive system for applications to 25000F. This product is used typically to bond and patch carbon-carbon and graphite components such as RF susceptors, fixtures, electrodes, crucibles, furnace part parts, metal casting dies and continuous casting dies.Due to its low coefficient of thermal expansion, 4.2ppm 10–6 , matching most grades of graphite, it is believed to be ideal for thermal cycling applications.
Graphi-Bond 669 is said to be an easy-to-apply, dispensable adhesive that is a water-based, environmentally safe compound containing no asbestos or volatile organic compounds. After setting at room temperature for one to two hours and curing at 200F for one to two hours, it is reported to provide good mechanical strength and moisture and corrosion resistance.
Another adhesive product from CPL is Ceramabond 571, an advanced, high temperature magnesium oxide based ceramic adhesive, used to bond machineable glass-ceramics and metal inserts for applications to 1,600C.
Ceramabond 571 claims a broad range of features, making it ideal for high temperature electrical and mechanical assembly, and high vacuum applications. Features claimed include bonding ceramic-to-metal and ceramic-to-ceramic and water-based two-part powder and liquid system. Other features attributed to Ceramabond 571 include: it is easily mixed, it cleans up with warm water, has a tensile shear strength of 500+ psi, torque strength of 21.6 ft-lbs, dielectric strength of 255 volts per mil, no volatiles and no out gassing.
The first of the new sealants is Pyro-Putty 2400. This is a new high temperature sealant and metal repair compound, used to repair automotive and industrial exhaust systems to 1,100C
Pyro-Putty 2400 is reported to be an advanced ceramic-metallic, high temperature paste for cast iron, steel and stainless steel components and structures. Key features claimed include, seals warped flanges cracks and holes up to 3/8", bonds tenaciously to cast iron and steel, resists thermal shock, water-based, single component system, no volatiles, cures at room temperature and is machineable and paintable.
Also available is Pyro-Putty 2500, a new high temperature compound used to attach brake pads used in race cars and other high performance vehicles.
Developed originally as a high temperature sealant and metal repair compound,Pyro-Putty 2500 claims to provide the good adhesive qualities that are necessary for high temperature bonding.
Pyro-Putty 2500 is reported to be a single part, black pigmented, ceramic filled paste that withstands operating temperatures to 870C. Once applied,Pyro-Putty can, we are informed, be air set in 16-24 hours or heat cured at 93C. Cured Pyro-Putty is said to exhibit minimal shrinkage and is resistant to thermal shock and chemical corrosion.
It is stated to be an environmentally safe, aqueous-based compound that contains no asbestos or volatile organic compounds.
Corr-Paint CP4000 is a new high temperature coating used to protect metals, ceramics and refractories from high temperature oxidation and corrosion to 600C.
The product is described as a single part water disbursable, ceramic-silicone based coating that claims exceptional thermal, moisture and salt spray resistance. It can be applied to a wide range of substrates including dense ceramics, porous insulation materials, carbon and stainless steel.
Corr-Paint CP4000 is reported to be a low VOC, non-flammable formulation that is supplied in a viscosity range of 600-1,200cps. It can be thinned with water and applied using brush, roller or spray equipment. Drying is said to occur within one to two hours and curing is accomplished usually in operation or at 230C in one to two hours. It is available in aluminium, white, clear, blue, green and yellow.
