Plascoat PPA571 scores another European water industry success in tank trials

Plascoat is said to be set to extend its PPA571 series thermoplastic coating penetration of the European water industry following a highly successful applications trial on water tanks, carried out in conjunction with an international water company.

Four tanks up to 30 metres in diameter and with as many as 365 mild or stainless steel sections were electrostatically sprayed in a single pass using the PPA571ES thick film coating – and during installation on to concrete bases none of the costly impact and stress damage associated with traditional polyester and vitreous enamel linings was encountered.

If any assembly damage to the lining should occur, the Plascoat material is said to offer the major bonus of being repairable using fast and simple techniques. The coating's other perfomance benefits include excellent resistance to pollutants, UV and abrasion.

The PPA571 series, which includes fluidised bed dipping as well as electrostatic spray versions at both standard and heavy duty grades, has reportedly been winning over the European water industry – securing a succession of national and international approvals for both potable and non-potable applications.

Recently it was confirmed that Plascoat's PPA571ES Blue 536 meets the requirements of France's Direction Generale de la Sante (DGS) directives and the standard AFNOR XP P41-250-1/2/3 with reference to drinking water.

We are also informed that Plascoat PPA571ES has also won approval from the highly influential Drinking Water Inspectorate in the UK. In addition, PPA571 is in receipt of EC approval and the specific support of the German and Belgium control agencies.

The PPA571 series is described as self adhering and does not require a primer– a fact that is said to contribute to significant cost savings over traditional water industry coatings and eliminates possible environmental concerns. Lower material density, without affecting the coating thickness or its integrity, is another area of cost reduction.
