Export markets light up Keywords:Luminous Technologies, Coating, Paints

Award winning technology developed by a small company in Scotland is said to be taking the maritime world by storm.

Luminous Technologies, based at the Larkfield Industrial Estate in Greenock, have developed the Optically Active Coating System (OACS), a special luminous additive which is added to industrial paint. After the surface has been coated,a special UV light will reveal immediately any spots that have been missed. This is vital on structures such as ships' hulls and ballast tanks, where protection against corrosion is essential. The system is currently undergoing trials with the US Navy and recently, at a glittering ceremony in London, the company won the prestigious Seatrade Award for Innovation.

Luminous Technologies are being supported by Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire in their export drive to promote and trial the OACS with paint manufacturers around the world.

Over the rest of this year, Luminous Technologies will visit Norway, Germany,Denmark, The Netherlands, Japan and the USA to progress deals and trials with the major international plant manufacturers.
