High density powder transfer

Air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pump specialist, Tri-Ark, can supply specialised 2'' and 3'' powder transfer pumps. These specialised pumps claim new technology which allows powders of densities up to 1600kg/m3 to be pumped.
These developments provide are thought to be an extremely cost-effective alternative to complex dedicated pneumatic powder conveying systems.
According to Tri-Ark, although unmodified AODD pumps are capable of pumping powders with densities up to around 400kg/m3, powders of higher density tend to pack, thus jamming the pump. The new pump variants claim systems to introduce air into the fluid inlet system. This is said to fluidises the denser powders and allows them to be pumped without jamming.
These modified air inlet systems can be adjusted to optimise air flow for the particular powder being pumped. Transfer rates are dependent upon factors such as discharge and suction conditions as well as the powder density and particle size.
An enormous range of powders can reportedly be transferred with these new systems. These include acrylic resins, cement, heavy resins, titanium dioxide,silicones, carbon black, expanded mica etc.
