This Guideline deals with the present state of the art of plants for heatset web offset printing on paper or cardboard webs. It does not apply to other printing methods or materials, in particular not to coldset web offset printing,dry offset printing or other drying methods.
The description of the general principles of heatset web offset printing is followed by details on the sources of emissions and on the measures of how to avoid or minimise them. Production-integrated pollution prevention is now the basis for an overall environmental assessment of these plants. Careful weighting of various aspects can be done with the help of a table. This will lead to an appropriate evaluation of the pros and cons, depending on the combination of process steps in operation. Consequently, the oxygen reference for waste gas emission measurements was deleted because it no longer gives evidence of complete combustion without dilution of the waste gas. In addition to that, a simple approach to a solvent balance was adopted.
