Multi Drive, the new flexible right-angle servo gearhead from Bayside

The new Multi Drive, a flexible, right-angle servo gearhead from Bayside Precision Gearheads, gives designers a choice of three different output shaft options (see Plate 2). Providing single output shaft, dual output shaft and hollow shaft capabilities,the Multi Drive is suited to a much wider range of applications than conventional gearheads.

Features of Multi Drive include: five frame sizes, 90mm-220mm, seven ratios ranging from 1 to 30:1,tapped holes for foot mounting standard on all three gearheads, dual output mounting faces, and a rugged design for a longer service life.

Multi Drive's large spiral bevel gear output section is direct driven for lower ratio models (1:1, 2:1 and 3:1). For higher ratios, Multi Drive incorporates an all-helical planetary input section to allow higher input speeds (up to 8,000rpm).

Additionally, the hollow shaft model features a quick disconnect bushing for easy, zero backlash coupling, which is removable for use on either output face. The double shaft style allows simultaneous driving of two applications, and also offers a separate encoder mounting option.

Bayside's patented ServoMount design makes mounting the Multi Drive gearheads to any motor error-free ­ and with a balanced pinion supported by a floating bearing,ServoMount provides true alignment of the input pinion and the gears, allowing extremely high input speeds. Bayside also offers a complete range of planetary and NEMA gearheads including in-line and right angle configurations. Low backlash, high torque, high efficiency designs are available in standard ratios from 3:1 to 100:l, with torques up to 2,260Nm. Custom designs are also available.
