Robots and new materials are revolutionising the manufacture and design of everything from aircraft to automobiles, furniture to footwear, golf clubs to generators. The automotive industry is typical of an industry implementing such changes, as the principles first incorporated in concept cars are carried through into hybrid vehicles designed for easy and cost‐effective production. The need to join an ever‐increasing number of dissimilar materials, for which traditional methods may be unsatisfactory, means that adhesives technology will play an even more important role in the future than it does today.
