Gives examples of different levels of automation. Presents a process developed by the author’s company (Assembly Technology and Test Ltd) called total manufacturing cell (TMC). It recognises that the manufacturing process is a key element in the success or failure of a product and sees development of the manufacturing solution as only one phase in the life of a product.
