New fine line printing technology to revolutionize electronics industry
A new technology developed in the UK is about to revolutionize the world electronics industry. ERA Technology has just completed the development project at its Leatherhead office in southern England which will make printing circuit boards less expensive and of a more consistent quality. The new novel screen technology allows low cost thick film printing to be utilized for fine line applications.
Fine line applications currently involve much more expensive and complex thin film techniques which means that this new technology could lead to the savings of millions of pounds each year in the electronics production industry. It also means that miniaturization in the electronics industry is likely to continue.
The new thick film fine line technology can be used in various applications including multi-chip modules for high density interconnects, high frequency (microwave) circuits and many other areas. Of particular interest is its ability to be used for high tolerance resistor patterns without the added expense of laser trimming after printing.
"The technology is now tried and proven", says Vlad Skarda, head of microelectronics at ERA Technology."What we are looking for now, in conjunction with our offices in North America and Asia, are people all over the world to license this technology. That being said, we are still supplying local SMEs with screens developed with the new technology, providing them with significant production savings with a technology not normally available to them".
The new thick film fine line technology does not represent a discontinuous innovation for the electronics industry as it can be introduced without replacing existing infrastructure. This should help guarantee early adoption of the technology in the marketplace as companies rush for the competitive advantage this technology offers.
