New £1.4M PCB assembly centre open and ready to "REACT"

Keywords: Electronics

Electronics industry companies now have a powerful new source of technical back-up available in the North East, where TWI's Regional Electronics Assembly Centre (REACT) is fully commissioned. The £1.4m facility based at TWI North, Middlesbrough, UK, provides a full demonstration, instruction and prototype assembly line for surface mount and through-hole technology and full electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection to safeguard static sensitive components.

The centre will assist the electronics industry (particularly small and medium sized enterprises) to develop cost-effective products and production processes. Companies are able to try state-of-the-art PCB assembly and soldering technology on their existing products and prototypes, before buying potentially expensive capital equipment. Supported by EU structural funds (ERDF and ESF),the facility addresses the increasing environmental pressures to remove lead from solder products, and bromine flame-retardants from PCB materials.

Expert advice is available to help companies select the best technology for their needs, supported by TWI's world-leading Microtechnology Centre at Cambridge, which has over 35 years experience in electronic packaging and soldering.

The centre supplies a full training service, production line audits, product and manufacturing systems, troubleshooting and environmental testing.

A help desk supporting the centre provides technical advice and assistance,as well as training and general information.
