Stainless steel trackerball for medical, food and laboratory environmentsKeywords: Penny + Giles,Product development, Tracking

Penny + Giles Computer Products, a division of Devlin Electronics, has developed an "autoclaveable" trackerball based on their already successful range of trackerballs (see Plate 7).

The new trackerball has been designed and developed, such that sterilisation by autoclaving can be carried out on parts of the product that come into contact with the contaminated environment. The design makes the product ideal for use within the medical field, food industry and laboratory environments.

The ball and shaft mechanism is removable for sterilisation from the encoder housing, which remains in its operating location. There are no bearings or crevices which could shield contaminants from the cleaning process.

The units can be supplied with RS232 serial, phase quadrature or IBM AT &PS/2 formats for direct connection to a PC.

Penny + Giles also manufacture a wide range of trackerballs and joysticks for industrial and medical applications.
