Just a few short years ago we in university libraries in the UK had our Follett Review with its various follow‐up and supplements; now, apparently, it is the turn of the public libraries. LINC, the Audit Commission and a number of other bodies are all currently having their say on the future role of public libraries in the UK. Our readers are referred to the review columns of our sister journal Library Review for discussion of those; they signal a generally welcome attention for the sector, particularly if the outcome will be a new role defined for the library community...
