Charles Eames (1907‐1978) was a great admirer of the “superball” – those little rubber balls that bounce so high – to such an extent that he used to carry them around and hand them out to people on his travels. In chapter 10 of this book Eames Demetrios suggests that the pleasure that Charles and his wife Ray (1912‐1988) took in this apparently simple toy expressed “the profound respect the Eameses had for anything that, through the hard work and discipline of the creator, led to an effortless and spontaneous experience for the user”.
