This attractive volume is the fourth in Fitzroy Dearborn’s series of abridged versions of its most notable encyclopedias. The original two‐volume work in 1997, Encyclopedia of Mexico: History, Society and Culture (RR 99/292), was a mighty triumph of superlative scholarship. My then review stated: “This is the most thorough and authoritative description of Mexican history, society and culture yet offered to us. It is a splendid achievement, unlikely to be bettered, and enthusiastically recommended to all libraries with Latin American interests.”
