The classic A Field Guide to the Birds of Britain and Europe was published in 1954, but ornithologists had to wait for another 34 years for a field guide to the birds of the Middle East[1,2]. These guides had one author in common ‐ P.A.D. Hollom ‐ and the new field guide under consideration here is dedicated to him.
