The Summer Atlas of North American Birds

My first thought on picking up this book was: Why a summer atlas? In this country we have a winter atlas which seeks to show the distribution of birds in winter, and the breeding bird atlas which shows positive or suspected breeding[1,2]. North America also has a winter atlas[3]. So I was interested to see in the preface that this atlas contains maps, figures and tables pertaining to birds found in summer in North America, south of approximately 51N latitude and north of Mexico.
