Thanks to the unremitting energies of Hollywood’s motion picture industry, the epic heavily outnumbered, last‐ditch defence of the Alamo by Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, and others against the marauding Mexican army under the command of General Antonio López de Santa Ana, is known the world over. Inevitably, in the 160 years that have passed since the defenders stood to the last man, truth and legend have been significantly interwoven.
