George Thomas Kurian is an experienced editor of large‐scale reference works. For example, to name but four, there are several others he has edited, in descending order of size: Encyclopedia of the Third World (3 vols. 2,418 pp.); World Education Encyclopedia (3 vols. 1,720 pp.); World Gazetteer of Boundaries (900 pp.); and Geo‐data: the World Almanac Gazetteer (624 pp.). This latest four‐volume encyclopaediac work on the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States will now take its place as the second largest (4 vols. 1,840 pp.).
