Spies are not, by definition, the nicest of people, so perhaps the nine‐ to 13‐year‐old age range is about the first to need such an introduction. I am a little uncertain about the appropriateness of the series title: by no means all of the spies in here could be classed as rebels with causes. Some were as much driven by other motives entirely, including I suspect in the case of Mata Hari, folly, and one country’s rebel with a cause is another’s traitor or terrorist.
