In his review of the first edition of this Dictionary, published in 1992, Peter Marshall, despite reservations about the placement of similar titles under different entries, and about the “see also” references which sometimes referred to non‐existent headings, described it as “a quite exceptional work, a major landmark”, in which 6,000 dictionaries “are recorded in a dictionary arrangement of 1,000 entries, by subject, language, and by the ‘household name’ of certain works where Dr Kabdebo considers a work to be especially well known” (Reference Reviews, Vol.7 No. 3, 1993, pp.7‐8, 93/168).
