First published by The Academy Press, Dublin, in 1981, with a new edition by The Lilliput Press in 1990, this is the third reprint since 1992 ‐ a sure sign of popularity. Intended as a selection of almost 1,000 Irish names for children, it is also a very useful and reliable introduction to “the riches of Irish personal names”, with copious notes on etymologies, family histories, and meanings (sometimes speculative).
