The Longman Handbook of Modern European History 1763‐1997 3rd edition

There can be few librarians with historical interests who will not be aware of this useful and moderately priced book, now appearing in its third edition, updated to July 1997 to include, for instance, recent developments in the Balkans. The authors are well qualified, having edited a whole series of comparable works devoted to Britain. They are certainly correct in claiming that the Handbook “brings together chronological, statistical and tabular information which is not to be found elsewhere within the confines of a single volume”.
