Librarians in Fiction: A Critical Bibliography

What a funny lot we are: that is suggested in various who’s whos, a few biographies and a quite appreciable amount of (for the most part mediocre) fiction. One aspect of this question is what we actually are like, the other is how others see us. There have been a number of partial or intermittent studies of the librarian’s image (the most systematic study of that image in literature and film is, perhaps significantly, in French: Drôles de Bibliothèques), but any future work will rely heavily on Mr Burns’s labour of love.
